Report: Cardiff UNA and District, October 2019

At the invitation of Robin Attfield, Chair of United Nations Association, Cardiff, a meeting took place on Wednesday 2nd October at the historic Temple of Peace and Health venue in Cardiff. Robin Attfield introduced Vijay Mehta who gave the keynote address exploring the possibility of establishing Ministries / Departments for Peace in UK and worldwide. Second speaker was Ahmad Shahidov from Azerbaijan who spoke about the effective implementation strategies of VM’s book, How Not To Go To War.

Lilias Cheyne and Jonathan Fosh, members of Uniting for Peace also attended the meeting and remarked that it was an honour to attend the book discussion at Temple of Peace in Cardiff which has been visited in the past by luminaries like Nelson Mandela.

Vijay Mehta said that UNA Cardiff is doing excellent peace work and highlighting the work of United Nation, but like many small organisations, under appreciated. The audience included UNA Cardiff members and some of them were from Syria, Somalia and Somaliland, a vibrant discussion took place about conflicts in Middle East and how to resolve them. The event was a good networking opportunity.
